The First Congregational Church, UCC, of Madison (FCC), whose mission includes helping its neighbors in need, has made a $5,000 donation to Christian Community Action, Inc. (CCA), a New Haven based nonprofit that provides “help, housing, and hope” to those in need.

This has been an exceedingly difficult time for many, who are experiencing an uncertainty with employment, meals and even homes for their families. The tireless work of CCA is, as it always has been, crucial in helping its neighbors meet these often-devastating challenges. This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, CCA has seen a dramatic increase in families requesting help with their basic needs.

The donation was made from FCC’s Anne Sherman Trust and presented to CCA Executive Director Reverend Bonita Grubbs by FCC Deacon Charles Reese, who serves on CCA’s board and delivers the congregation’s food donations each week to CCA for its food pantry.

Thanks to the Rotary Club of Madison’s participation in the Liberty Bank Foundation Thanksgiving fundraising event, the donation was increased to $6,250 by virtue of a 25 percent matching donation from the foundation.

Earlier this year, the congregation provided a $4,944 donation to support CCA’s programs. Additionally, each year, FCC sponsors an angel giving tree to provide Christmas and holiday gifts for young people in families served by CCA.
