Public Input Sought for Westbrook Town Plan

The Westbrook Plan Update Committee has scheduled a public input session to get input from residents, businesses, and property owners as part of updating the 2011 Plan of Conservation and Development for Westbrook. The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be conducted via Zoom and meeting details will be shared on the town website www.westbrookct.us as the date approaches.

The draft 2021-’31 plan is available on the town website. Following the public meeting, the Plan Update Committee will review the comments received and further refine the Draft Plan of Conservation and Development before forwarding it to the Planning Commission for adoption. It is anticipated that the Planning Commission will schedule a public hearing on adoption for May or June of 2021.

The main themes of the plan include:

• Key initiatives (coastal resiliency, Town Center, and housing diversity),

• Sustainable community (overall sustainability, resiliency),

• Vibrant economy (business development, residential development, tourism),

• Healthy environment (natural resources, open space, coastal resources, character), and

• Solid foundation (community facilities, transportation, utilities)

A plan of conservation and development is an advisory document used by the Planning Commission and other town agencies to guide growth and change in Westbrook. Westbrook residents are encouraged to come to the meeting to help ensure that the Plan of Conservation and Development reflects community goals.

“This plan is an important document which will be used to guide future conservation and development activity over the next decade and beyond,” said Planning Commission Chair Marilyn Ozols.
