Old Saybrook COVID Cases Continue to Rise; Free Testing Available

Old Saybrook’s COVID-19 cases remain fairly high with the town continuing to be designated by the state Department of Public Health (DPH) as orange, a category with a case rate of 10 to 14 per 100,000 residents.

According to the DPH, in the week beginning Oct. 18, the town saw nine confirmed cases; the following week that ended on Halloween saw eight. These numbers reflect only those who live in “community settings.” The rate for Saybrook for the two week period was 12 cases per 100,000 residents.

According to a Nov. 5 notice from Old Saybrook’s Department of Emergency Management, the town had five new cases “in the past week.” The total residential COVID cases in the town since March, according to that notice, was 84.

Free drive-through testing for residents and non-residents alike is being provided by Community Health Center (CHC) beginning Monday, Nov. 9 at 154 College Street at Saybrook Point. The testing is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Appointments are not required and all ages can be tested, according to CHC Vice President of Communications Leslie Gianelli.
