Paul Cicarella Seeks 34th District State Senate Seat

Paul Cicarella was raised in East Haven and now lives in North Haven with his wife, Christy, their two children, Giada and Paul III, and their two bulldogs. As a lifelong resident of Connecticut as well as a small business owner, Cicarella said he sees the challenges residents are facing, particularly the middle class.

“We are at a crossroads and facing unprecedented and unique challenges as a state,” Cicarella said. “We cannot continue to allow the state to lose tomorrow’s leaders and talent because the state is too expensive to live, work, and raise a family. Now more than ever, we need a new generation of leadership to help rebuild our state’s economy and get people back to work.

“I want my children to have the same opportunities as I did and grow up to love this state and be proud of this region as much as I am,” he added. “We need to address the real-life challenges working and middle-class families face every day and provide for a place to call home and be proud of.”

If elected, Cicarella’s top three priorities include minimizing the tax burden on middle- and working-class families, standing with law enforcement, and maintaining local control of education.

“I will fight to help reduce the burden of taxes on middle and working-class families who want to live, work, and retire here,” said Cicarella. “A priority of mine will be to get people back to work and grow our economy. Historically, this has been a difficult task in a legislature that has been dominated by one party.

“Keeping our residents and children safe in Connecticut means supporting our first responders so they can take care of us when we are most in need,” he added. “I will work to protect our children by fighting to keep school resource officers in our schools. I am the father of two school-aged children, and I understand the importance of a quality education. I believe teachers, parents, and students should have a say about local education decisions and not bureaucrats in Hartford.”

Cicarella graduated from East Haven High School where he was a multi-sport athlete who excelled on the wrestling team, later coaching the Yellowjackets and founding the town’s first youth wrestling clinic. A sponsor and coach of youth athletics, Paul was awarded the 2017 MADD Community Service Award and was inducted into the East Haven Alumni Association Hall of Fame for his wrestling achievements.

He served as a corrections officer with the Connecticut Department of Corrections. Cicarella is president and founder of Advanced Investigations, LLC, a private investigations agency with seven Connecticut locations and is the owner of National Bug Sweep and Advanced Installations.

“As a small business owner, I am supportive of measures to make state government and business more efficient and less burdensome,” said Cicarella. “In a COVID-19 environment, we do need to be flexible and look at new ways of conducting business.”

He volunteers his time on various boards and through organizations such as East Haven and Greater New Haven Chambers of Commerce, MADD, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He is also the vice chairman of the North Haven Republican Town Committee and a member of the North Haven Zoning Board of Appeals.

“I believe in hard work, honesty, and integrity. My parents have instilled these values in me, and I teach my children the same,” said Cicarella. “We need to create opportunity for young professionals to live and work here. We need to support law enforcement and keep our communities safe. We must keep our promises to those most in need and create opportunity for all families, workers, and job creators to succeed. We need common-sense solutions in Hartford to help build a better and brighter future for our communities. I want our district to continue having a strong and powerful voice at the state capitol. Now more than ever we need a new generation of leadership to help rebuild our state’s economy and get people back to work.”
