Sept. 15, 2020: The North Branford Police Department is proud to introduce our newest officer, K9 Chance. Chance is a 15 month old black German Shepherd from Czech Republic. Chance and his handler, Officer Cosenza have spent the last several months together and will be entering the Connecticut State Police K9 Academy later next month.

The Hometown Foundation purchased K9 Chance from Kennel Zo Slovenskeho Dvora and donated him to our department. The Hometown Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization committed to supporting those in need in conjunction with Bozzuto's, Inc. The Foundation's focus and commitment center around five key program areas: animal welfare, emergency response personnel, individuals with intellectual disabilities or in need, major illness and the military. The cost of these K9 dogs, including equipment and training can run upwards of $20,000. The Hometown Foundation's contributions have allowed for our department to fulfill this position.

We would also like to thank Agway of North Branford who is supplying chance with all of his meals and Veterinary Associates of North Branford who will be overseeing all of K9 Chance's medical care.

We are looking forward to K9 Chance being a great addition to our department's patrol division, as well as strengthen the relationship with our community.
