Green Party Candidate Joins Race for 35th Assembly District

There is officially another candidate in the District 35 State Representative race: Green Party Candidate John May of Clinton.

On Aug. 26, the Green Party officially nominated May to be their representative on the ballot. May is a former teacher and current financial adviser who serves on the Clinton Economic Development Commission and the Conservation Commission. May also ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Clinton Board of Education in the 2019 elections.

May said that as a member running outside of the major two parties, he offers an alternative choice to people who may find themselves in the gap between the two sides.

“I see a coalition of natural Greens, Democrats, and Republicans working together. I like listening to people and new ideas,” May said told the Harbor News/Zip06.com.

The Green Party fielded candidates in the District 35 race in the 2016 and 2018 elections, though the candidates were unsuccessful both times. Since 2014 the district has been represented by Republican Jesse MacLachlan, however he dropped out of the for his fourth term last month to focus on his business career.

May will now face off against Westbrook Selectmen John Hall III (R) and Clinton Town Council member Christine Goupil (D).

The Harbor News and Zip06.com will continue to follow the District 35 race and will have in-depth profiles of the candidates later in the race.
