North Haven Announces Tropical Storm Isaias Debris Clean Up

Due to the extreme magnitude of damaged and fallen trees from the Aug. 4 Tropical Storm Isaias, First Selectman Michael J. Freda announced that, starting on Monday, Aug. 17, the town will begin implementing a curbside residential storm debris cleanup through which every home will be visited for pickup one time.

“Despite the enormous cost and massive undertaking of this clean up, I recognize that our residents have gone through a great deal these past several months of turbulent times. As a result, I have authorized the provision of these additional services in an effort to help our residents and give them some comfort in knowing that we will take care of this for them,” stated Freda.

Here is the criteria: The town will collect tree branches and limbs. The size of the wood must be no longer than six feet and placed in the town’s right of way (within 10 feet of the curb). For the safety of others, do not place debris in the street or blocking sidewalks and mail boxes.

Personnel from the Department of Public Works Field Operations will be working aggressively to pick up and remove curbside debris. This is not a bulk pick up and other debris will not be picked up. No grass or leaves and no construction or home debris will be picked up.

As an additional option for those residents that would like to clear their debris prior to the curbside pickup, the Town of North Haven will also provide residents affected by the storm with a central location at 91T Sackett Point Road, where they can make their own arrangements to haul and drop off storm debris.

The town is accepting storm brush and fallen cut up trees at 91T Sackett Point Road Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proof of residency is required. (This location is for residential use only, no commercial contractors unless accompanied by the resident.)

Directions to 91T Sackett Point Road: Sackett Point to Grasso Avenue to Powdered Metals Drive. Go to the end of Powdered Metals and lot is on the right.
