Deep River BOE Appoints New Elementary School Principal

On July 28, Regional School District No. 4 announced Lauren Feltz as the new principal of Deep River Elementary School, replacing Christian Strickland, who had served in the role since 2014.

“We were very fortunate to find in Ms. Feltz a candidate who possessed all of the leadership strengths and critical attributes valued by the staff and community in Deep River,” Superintendent of School Brian White stated in a July 28 release.

According to the district, Feltz earned her B.A. in psychology/education from Mount Holyoke, an M.A. in education from Cambridge College, and a second master’s degree in oral traditions from The Graduate Institute. Feltz has 13 years’ experience as an elementary teacher, 3 as an elementary school assistant principal, 3 as an elementary school principal, and 4 years most recently as principal of Middlebrook School in Wilton.

“I’m confident that Ms. Feltz will meet with success in her new role and lead the Deep River Elementary School community into its next chapter,” White said. “Ms. Feltz’s first day in district will be Wednesday, Aug. 12. Please join me in offering Ms. Feltz a sincere congratulations and welcoming her to our community.”

The Deep River Board of Education voted unanimously on July to appoint Feltz.

On June 30, Strickland posted this message on his school Twitter account: “Thank you so much to our students, families, and our amazing staff for all the kind and heartfelt messages. I will miss you all very much. I am so incredibly grateful for my time at #DRES. A small school with a huge heart. Thanks everybody.”
