Northrup Named April Exchange Youth of the Month

The Exchange Club of Madison has honored Christian Northrup, son of Julie and David Northrup, with the David Bell Scholarship Award as the April 2020 Youth of the Month. The Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) senior was nominated by the DHHS faculty and completed a competitive application including an essay titled “How Do You Intend to Serve as an Example Now and in the Future of a Responsible American Citizen,” performing outstanding DHHS and community activities, attaining an excellent grade-point average, and demonstrating personal achievements and earning high value awards. Exchange Club Program Chairman David Bell presented Christian Northrup with a $300 award and a commemorative plaque. Northrup is a high honors student, AP Scholar with honors, National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, member of the DHHS National Honor Society, vice president of the Chess Club, first chair clarinetist in the DHHS Band, and doubles player for the DHHS tennis team that won the SCC Conference Championship in 2018 and 2019 and the Class L State Championship in 2018. Northrup was also the delegate to the American Legion Boys State in 2019 at Eastern State University, and received the DHHS Excellence Award in Mathematics in 2018 and 2019. His community involvement includes Coach for Buddy Ball, a unified sport for people of all ages with special needs. Finally, Northrup is a tech support volunteer at the Madison Senior Center, is active in St. Margaret’s Church, and attended a mission trip. Northrup will continue his education next year at Notre Dame University.
