CFMC: No Shortage of Kindness

A simple gesture of kindness makes such a big difference, particularly now when it helps protect our brave frontline workers and most vulnerable citizens in the midst of COVID-19. In our local community, we are seeing an extraordinary outpouring of goodwill from local businesses, organizations, individuals, and families who are passionate about pulling together to lend a helping hand. These everyday heroes are working through the Community Foundation of Middlesex County (CFMC) to provide masks and face shields to our medical superheroes, first responders, veterans’ homes and other community members with the greatest need. We applaud their “can-do” attitude and are forever grateful for their leadership during this difficult time.

When the community foundation sounded the bell for volunteers to make cloth masks, they didn’t hesitate to answer the call. A huge shout out goes to the staff at Best Cleaners and to the Angels of Nick Ramcke Fund volunteers who put their talents to work and provided an extra layer of protection for our healthcare workers and veterans’ home residents. A big round of applause also goes to the awesome staff members at Goodspeed Musicals who volunteered to hand-craft face masks for local organizations in need and to donate a supply of N95 for hospital and hospice use. Bravo! Bravo!

The local acts of kindness didn’t stop there. Thanks to the generosity of the Rossi Family Foundation Trust, surgical masks were donated to food pantries, diaper banks, and other community organizations that provide basic necessities and services. Through other generous donations to the Live Local Give Local Emergency Fund by Andy Schatz, Barbara Wolf, and anonymous donors, we were also able to distribute protective face shields to hospital staff and first responders throughout Middlesex County. Hats off to these inspiring individuals, and to Middletown Police Captain Gary Wallace and Lieutenant David Godwin, and CFMC volunteer extraordinaire Alison Brinkmann of Essex, for making the special deliveries. Thanks to an abundance of community spirit, we are getting through this—together.

As we continue to build community in a new way, we recognize and appreciate all those who have made contributions large and small. A heartfelt thank you goes to all of our donors, fund holders, current and former board members, and so many other friends who are selflessly responding to the needs in our community through generous gifts to the Live Local Give Local Emergency Fund. Their passion for helping others ensures that our nonprofit organizations can continue operating and our neighbors thrive. Thanks go to everyone who has checked in on a neighbor, donated to a food bank, or practiced kindness every day by following social distance guidelines. We couldn’t do what we do without you, and are here to help good people do great things.
