East Haven Fireworks and Beach Day Canceled Due to COVID-19

Unfortunately, after careful deliberation and discussion, the East Haven Fireworks Committee Board has decided to cancel this year’s firework display. This year’s event was scheduled for Saturday, June 27 with a rain date of Monday, June 29 and marked the 20th year it was to be held.

In addition, and during the day leading up to the fireworks display, there is also a Beach Day celebration that includes a full schedule of entertainment as well as concessions and vendors. Those events will be canceled.

Anna Rose Russo, co-chair of the East Haven Fireworks Committee, stated, “This decision was not easy one for anyone involved. It is such a wonderful event that brings our community together during a special time of year, but there are simply too many uncertainties around large events like this moving forward and we had to make safety the first priority.

“I want to thank Mayor Carfora for his input and support,” Russo continued. “We look forward to coming back bigger and better next year.”

Recreation Director Louis Pane has recommended to the mayor that Beach Day events during the day leading to the evening fireworks display be canceled as well. The committee’s decision was based on closely followed communications from state and local authorities, the local health department and discussions with the Mayor’s Office.

“I have talked with Anna Rose and this wonderful group over the last few weeks. I can tell you how difficult a decision this was for them,” Mayor Joseph Carfora said. “This is a wonderful community event for many of the right reasons. The work of Chapter 484 of the Vietnam Veterans of America group and the Fireworks Committee make this event into one of the best around—thousands share in the entire day.”

Annarose Russo is the chair of this committee. The Fireworks Committee is made up of Vietnam veterans and other volunteers. The committee meets once a month between the end of August and the beginning of the following summer.
