Chester Fair, Memorial Day Parade Canceled Due to COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic has led to the cancellation of two treasured events in Chester: the Memorial Day Parade and the Chester Fair.

American Legion Post 97 Post Adjutant Jane Deuse Cable broke the announcement about the parade on May 7, stating that while the Memorial Day Parade cannot be held on Monday, May 25, there will be a small ceremony with a marching unit mustering at St. Joseph’s barn and proceeding to the War Memorial. The ceremony will be timed to coincide with a possible flyover by the 103rd Airlift Group.

Those interested in attending are asked to wear a mask and follow social distancing rules.

The Chester Fair Committee announced on May 7 that “Due to the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 virus in our community, and with the health and wellbeing of our patrons, volunteers, and vendors being our primary concern, the Executive Committee of the Chester Agricultural and Mechanical Society has voted to cancel the 2020 fair. We are as disappointed as we know you are, but we will look forward to planning for the 2021 Chester Fair. Best wishes for good health for all!”
