Clinton Resident Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Connecticut Department of Public Health has confirmed the first positive case of COVID-19 among Clinton residents. The individual is a male in his 60s. The individual is presently recovering at Yale New Haven Hospital and is showing signs of improvement.

Positive cases of COVID-19 in Middlesex County have been expected as community transmission of the virus has been occurring in the state. The Connecticut River Area Health District (CRAHD) will work with affected individuals to ensure all appropriate Centers for Disease Control & Prevention guidance is followed to limit any potential for exposure.

The Town of Clinton, in consultation with CRAHD, continues to closely monitor the coronavirus outbreak.

The Town of Clinton’s main objective is to continue to keep residents safe and help slow the spread of the virus. The single best way to slow the spread is to practice social distancing.

“Residents should assume that COVID-19 is everywhere and that anyone could have it,” CRAHD Director of Health Scott Martinson stated. “It has been shown that some people can have the virus with no symptoms at all.”

Residents who feel symptomatic of COVID-19 should stay at home and call or email their primary care provider with questions. Residents can call the State of Connecticut’s 2-1-1 line if instructed by their primary care provider to arrange testing or if they have questions about being tested. A series of questions will be asked by a 2-1-1 representative to determine if testing is appropriate.

All residents in the Town of Clinton are strongly encouraged to take preventative actions to help protect themselves and the community as your civic responsibility, these include:

• Staying home if you are sick except to get medical care

• Maintain social distancing of 6 feet when in public

• Avoiding close contact with people who are sick

• Washing your hands with soap and water frequently and for at least 20 seconds

• Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands after

• Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth

• Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. For more information, updates, resources, hotlines, testing, and how practice social distancing, visit:
