Friends Offer Challenge as Library Approaches Finish Line

Our Madison community—friends, neighbors, business people, and corporations—have all watched with interest and amazement since we voted to make our library newer, bigger, and equipped to serve Madison well into the 21st century. We all felt huge excitement as the fencing was wrapped around the property and regret as the Hull building was removed. Just last week a giant crane was on the property, causing passers-by to stare in awe.

Very soon we will be utilizing this new and remodeled, spacious, and open library with rooms for all kinds of activities: meetings, children and parents waiting for children, the friends’ book sales, and a place to donate books. We will have space for lectures, private study, and tutoring rooms; places for research; and places for fun.

We’re coming down the home stretch with the grand opening scheduled for July 1. At our Jan. 15 meeting, the Scranton Library Friends voted to challenge our community—friends, neighbors, business, and corporations. Our challenge” Match our gift of $10,000!

We challenge readers to step up in these final months and match our $10,000 to the Futures Campaign (the library building fund). Donors can make a group donation or donate as individuals or businesses. Now is a great time to help as we cross that finish line. Please accept our challenge and contact the library at info@scrantonlibrary.org or visit the temporary location at 1250 Durham Road, Madison. For more information or to make a donation, visit scrantonlibrary.org or call 203-245-7365.

Finally, we would like to suggest to each reader to pause a moment when leaving the Post Office or parking area and cast their eyes across Wall Street at the new wing of our library. Homage to the Hull Building? We think so.
