Branford Garden Club Awards Residential, Business Gardens

At the February meeting of the Branford Garden Club (BGC) committee chairs Sandy Kraus and Maureen O'Brien presented awards to individuals for residential and commercial gardens maintained in the Town of Branford.

Residential Award recipients included Winsome Smith, selected for her garden, "A Kaleidoscope of Colors" and Elizabeth Gallacher for her garden, "An American Garden." In addition, BGC member Maryann Babcock was selected for her garden, "Where East Meets West."

The Business Award was presented to G-Zen Restaurant (2 East Main St.) for "A Cafe in a Garden." Chef/owners Mark Shadle and Ami Beach Shadle, in conjunction with Sandra Diglio, were recognized for excellence in gardening which provides an island of beauty for customers and passing motorists.

A special Civic Award was presented to BGC member Marsha Bruce for her efforts ensuring that common spaces around town are clean and free of litter and weeds.

Each of the winners received a certificate of Outstanding Horticulture and Landscaping Achievement as well a garden stake with the BGC flower, the petunia, and year that was designed by Jane Crowley of JC Glass Art Designs.
