Mark Curcio and his 8th grade social studies classes celebrated law enforcement officers on Jan. 9 at Joseph Melillo Middle School. Students invited East Haven officers, as well as others from Branford, North Haven, Hamden, and North Branford, to join the school family in an assembly to honor and celebrate.

Students created a presentation that addressed the commitment, training, public service, and sacrifices that are part of a police officer’s daily life. Through their research, students discovered the many career opportunities within law enforcement and the steps to get there.

Students created a memorial wall of honor and slideshow of officers who have been killed in the line of duty in Connecticut. This project had many life lessons for the students. Students recognize law enforcement as an honorable and life commitment to public service and safety.
