Husband Arrested for Stabbing Wife in East Haven

An arrest has been made after officers were dispatched to an East Haven residence for a report of a stabbing during a domestic dispute on Jan. 19.

Officers responded to a reported domestic dispute at 55 Hilton Avenue East Haven. The report was made by the victim’s sister, who advised dispatch that she had just received a call from her sister reporting that she had been stabbed by her husband.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Robert Cassidy, 52, who immediately put his hands behind his back after stating, “I stabbed my wife (3) times.”

Cassidy was taken into custody without incident. The victim, who suffered multiple stab wounds to her abdomen and back, was treated on scene by the East Haven Fire Department and was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries. She is listed as stable and is expected to survive.

Cassidy was transported to the East Haven Police Department and was processed. After a thorough investigation conducted by the East Haven Police Department Detective Division, Cassidy was charged with assault in the first degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statute 53a-59, and disorderly conduct in violation of Connecticut General Statute 53a-182.

Cassidy is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 21 at G.A. 23, 121 Elm Street, New Haven.

Combating domestic violence remains a top priority for the East Haven Police Department, which hase a multitude of services available to domestic violence victims, both internally at the police department and through partnerships with outside organizations. The police department urges those living in fear and who need assistance to contact the department. Officers can set them up with a safety plan, get them in touch with domestic violence advocates and can assist with getting victims the resources they need to free themselves from the power and control cycle that is so evident in so many cases. The department is here to help 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
