Village District Proposal Returns to Public Hearing in Clinton

There will be a second continuation of a public hearing of the Planning & Zoning Commission at Town Hall on Monday, Feb. 3 over the proposed establishment of a village district along High Street and John Street. The hearing will take place at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.

The applicant for the district is the Clinton Historic District Commission. The commission believes the creation of such a district will help preserve the character of the neighborhood.

Previous public hearings on the matter were held on Dec. 2, 2019 and Jan 6, 2020. At those meetings, some members of the public spoke against the measure out of a fear the creation of the district would limit the amount of control they had over any future changes to their property. Some members of the public also expressed confusion as to where the boundaries of the district would fall.

There will be a meeting of the Historic District Commission on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in the community room at the Police Station at 7 p.m. At that meeting, it’s expected that the commission will explain the application in more detail to concerned parties.

During the hearing, concerned citizens may speak in favor, against, or neutrally on the matter.
