Seven accomplished North Branford High School (NBHS) student musicians recently participated in the 2020 Southern Region Music Festival. The two-day festival was held at Maloney High School in Meriden. The students participated in several hours of rehearsals on Friday, Jan. 10 and Sat. Jan. 11th, concluding with two fantastic concerts on Saturday afternoon.

NBHS Band Director and North Branford Public Schools K-12 Music Department Leader Katie Trainer attended the festival with NBHS student musicians Marisa Helff, Benjamin Reynolds, Christina Riggione, Sheyenne Rivera, Emma Schreiber, Caroline Shadman and Emma Yacono. The seven student musicians represented NBHS as members of the Treble Choir, Mixed Choir, Concert Band, and Orchestra.

The Southern Region of the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) is comprised of over 50 public and private schools in the southern portion of CT. Students participating in this festival took part in a rigorous audition process at Foran High School in November, 2019, to win a spot in the Southern Region Ensembles.

These students are now eligible to audition on February 8 for the CT All-State Music Festival.
