GHS Student Charged with Attempted Murder After Seemingly Random Attack

A Guilford High School (GHS) student has been charged with attempted murder stemming from a seemingly random attack on a woman in Westport, according to a statement by the Westport Police Department.

On Jan. 6, Ellis Tibere, 18, opened the door of a parked car in a Westport parking lot and confronted the occupant, according to police. Tibere was wearing a mask and brandishing a knife, police said.

The victim, a 33 year-old from Greenwich, sustained multiple stab wounds but is in stable condition, according to police.

Tibere was stopped by patrol car a short distance from the scene of the attack, police said, and “confessed to his involvement in the incident.”

“Based on interviews conducted with Tibere, it appears the victim and location were chosen at random,” the statement reads.

GHS Principal Rick Misenti sent a statement to families following the incident, which was provided to the Guilford Courier. In it, Misenti said that counselors and school staff were working to provide emotional and psychological support to students

“Counseling support will continue to be available to students for as long as necessary,” Misenti said.
