Branford Police Catch Two Burglars Hiding in Local Business

Two men who broke into a Branford business, then tried to hide inside when police arrived, were arrested at the scene on Sunday, Dec. 8, according to information shared by Branford Police Department today. 

Police responded to a report of a burglary underway at a commerical business, Brook and Whittle LTD, 59 School Ground Road at 8:31 a.m. on Dec. 8. The business was closed at the time and the report was made by an employee who viewing the company's video surveillence remotely, and discovering the two men inside.

Although the building was secure when police arrived, the employee reported that the suspects were still on view on video. Once the suspects determined police were outside, the two men hid inside the building, according to police.

East Haven and North Branford Police helped BPD set up a perimeter and two teams of officers entered facility, according to police. The officers found the men hiding inside.

BPD's statement concering the incident said an investigation determined the two men were attempting to steal "...multiple large brass cylinders used to make labels in the printing industry valued at $22,500."

Both men were detained on $50,000 surety bonds pending a court appearance.
