Carfora Institutes Temporary Spending Freeze for East Haven Town Departments

Mayor Joseph A. Carfora instituted a purchase order and overtime freeze, effective, Dec. 4, for all town departments.

The temporary freeze requires all non-emergency purchase orders and overtime hours to get prior approval by the mayor. The freeze is in effect while the new administration assesses all departmental accounts and where taxpayer money was being spent.

It is the mayor’s goal to be transparent and forthcoming to residents, and to curtail any frivolous spending.

“We are taking a deep dive into the town’s financial health,” Carfora said. “This freeze allows me to assess what is necessary spending and what is not, while properly meeting the town’s actual needs. The bottom line is that I am evaluating everything.”

The freeze does not affect regular utility bill and lease payments or any services to residents. Also, day-to-day operations at town departments will not be affected.
