Vaping Panel to be Held on Nov. 18

Due to continued concerns about the health and social costs of vaping, State Representative Noreen Kokoruda (R-101) and State Senator Christine Cohen (D-12) are holding a public panel to educate and listen to residents’ concerns on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Town Hall, 14 Meetinghouse Lane, Madison.

Cohen and Kokoruda will gather with local school officials and health experts, seeking to dispel myths and answer questions about the hot-button topic that has raised concerns across the country as more and more young people use these products.

Kokourda said she has been in close contact with Daniel Hand High School Principal T.J. Salutari, who will be on the panel. She described him as being at the “forefront” of the issue as he deals with students who use or are in danger of encountering vaping products.

Cohen, who is co-sponsoring the event, recently held a similar panel in Branford [see related story].

Though the panel will focus on youth vaping, Kokoruda said anyone who has questions or has been affected in any way by vaping is welcome to attend.

“To inform and answer questions is our goal,” she said.

Also on the panel will be Madison Youth & Family Services Director Scott Cochran and Community Support Coordinator Catherine Barden, who can address addiction issues, Kokoruda said, along with local pediatrician Karen Goldberg, Steve Manware of the Madison Police Department, and Daniel Hand Assistant Principal Brian Bodner.
