Election Season Quiet in Guilford

With no contested races and only a handful of positions on the ballot, Guilford had a quiet election day this year, one that resulted in a few new faces.

The Board of Education lost some of its more senior leadership, with Bill Bloss (D), who served 20 years on the Board of Education and 14 of those as chairman, did not seek reelection this year. The same is true of Vice Chairman Gary C. Kaisen (R), who was first elected in 2011.

They will be replaced by John A. Della Ventura (D) and Kristen Marottoli Peck (R). Kathleen M.B. Balestracci (D) and Richard Hersh (D) won new four-year terms unopposed.

On the Board of Finance, Meghan Scanlon (D) and F. Michael Ayles (D) also were elected to new terms unopposed. Kenneth MacKenzie (R) did not seek another term; his seat was taken by Robert Hartmann, Jr. (R).

On the Board of Assessment Appeals, neither Amanda Sansone Popplewell (R) nor Dennis Dostert (D) sought reelection this year. Their seats were taken by Brian Wiley (D) and Cindy Cartier (R), to serve four-year terms.
