Tuxis Walkway Improvements Still on Track After Slight Weather Delay

Though recent storms and bad weather have prevented a few days of work, the Tuxis Pond Walkway project is still essentially on schedule, aiming for an early December finish, according to Assistant Town Engineer Rob Russo.

“Everything’s on schedule, everything’s looking great,” Russo told The Source.

Rain and storms stopped work on the project for a total of four or five days, Russo said, but that won’t snowball into any significant detriment to the project.

He said the missed days might have caused the final date of the project to be pushed back “a week or two.”

In June 2016, the town received a $400,000 grant from the state’s Responsible Growth and Transit-Oriented Development Grant Program to make structural and aesthetic improvements to the Tuxis Walkway. The walkway is a boardwalk-style pedestrian pathway that stretches between Bradley Road adjacent to the Webster Bank lot at the north and the Boston Post Road between the firehouse and Cumberland Farms on the south, wrapping around the western edge of Tuxis Pond. It is the primary pedestrian link between the train station and Madison’s center.

Almost all of the new posts have already been installed, Russo said, along with about 100 feet of new decking.

The project had been delayed a couple of times before finally getting started in early September. The town also needed a special appropriation of $140,000 to complete the project after the cost exceeded the $400,000 state grant.
