It’s the 14th year for the Jams for Cans presented by Face Arts Music. This year’s celebration of local talent, music, and community will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Deep River Ambulance building, located at 284 Elm Street. Doors open at 4 p.m.

“It’s a wonderful event—it’s families feeding families,” said Frank Natter, one of the owners of Face Arts Music in Deep River.

The Jams for Cans event was the brainchild of Natter’s daughter Hillyn, 14 years ago. She inherited the musical gene from her father and plays the piano and the drums.

“Seeing and hearing live music is a great experience for everyone, but especially children,” said Natter. “Early in the evening we usually have kids of all ages running around and dancing. They experience the music in a different way than adults do and it is great to see.

“Everyone understands the language of music, right?” he added. “It gives kids self-esteem and a purpose and, just like with any other team sport, it brings like-minded people together to be part of a group to work together, learning about cooperation, patience, and getting along.”

Admission to the free event is five or more non-perishable food items, toiletries, or a monetary donation. All donations are donated directly to the Deep River Food Pantry to be distributed to those in need throughout the holiday season.

This year’s lineup of performers includes student performers who will be playing from 4 to 5 p.m.: Joe Gilbert, Bonnie Jacobson, Maryellen Cowles, the Sweet Polly Duo, Dave Grunwald and Friends, and folk artist Alison Farrell.

At 6 p.m., Roma (Dylan Royka, Elliot Stack, Mia Stack, and Samuel Matt) will go on, and at 7 p.m., The Band Downstairs will play. At 8:30 p.m. the band Chester Landing (Gary and Judy Splittgerber, Tony Griggs, and Dave Grunwald) will play; at 9:20 p.m. Gary Torello and Friends are slated to go on; and closing out the night, Christ Abbott and Friends will play, starting at 10:05 p.m.

“We would like to thank Sweet Pea Quilts, Deep River Ambulance Association, Studio Ten Design, River Valley Dance Project, Signs and Digital Graphics, Cumberland Farms, and Intuitive Pet Care for helping to make this happen,” said Natter, who is hoping for a big turnout.

He added, “This is a great family night out that everyone will enjoy and its for a great cause. We hope to see many faces from the local community come out to support this event.”
