North Haven 2019 Municipal Elections are Nov. 5

Voters heading to the polls in North Haven on Tuesday, Nov. 5 will select their candidates for first selectman, selectman, town clerk and tax collector, town treasurer, Board of Finance, Board of Education, Board of Assessment appeals, Planning & Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Board of Police Commissioners, and Board of Fire Commissioners.

While there will be no changes at the top of the ballot—incumbents Republican First Selectman Mike Freda and selectmen William Pieper (R) and Sally Buemi (D) will return to office unchallenged—the underticket shows several competitive races.

Incumbent Republican Town Clerk and Tax Collector J. Stacey Yarbrough faces a challenge from Democrat Kathy Spinato-Grant.

For town treasurer, incumbent Republican Laurie-Jean Hannon faces a challenge from Democrat Stephen Gifford.

For Board of Finance, Republican incumbents Richard Monico and Timothy Doheny and Democrat Nancy Barrett are joined by Democrat Patricia Ann Brown on the ballot; three will win a seat.

For the Board of Education, incumbents Jennifer Cecarelli (D) and current chair Anita Anderson (R) are joined on the ballot by Democrat Frederick Rodriguez and Republican Eleni Diakogeorgiou; three will win a seat.

For Board of Assessment Appeals, Democrat Danielle Morfi and incumbent Republicans Jane Andrews and Michael Fletcher are running for three open seats.

Planning & Zoning Commission, incumbents James Giulietti (D) and Richard Wilson (R) and Republican Brian Cummings are running for two open seats.

Zoning Board of Appeals incumbents Republican Donald Clark and Democrat Albert Wambolt will be re-elected to the board. Zoning Board of Appeals alternate candidates are Andrew Gotty (R) and incumbents Kenneth Quick (D) and Carolyn Yaccarino (R); they will be seated.

For Board of Police Commissioners, incumbents Marc Calafiore (D) and Robin Wilson (R) will be re-elected.

For Board of Fire Commissioners, Democrat Jennifer Caldwell and incumbent Republican Mary Jane Mulligan will appear on the ballot; incumbent Democrat Peter Criscuolo is registered with the Secretary of the State’s Office as a write-in candidate. The three are competing for two open seats.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The locations of polling places for the town’s six voting districts are:

• District 1: Mildred Wakely Recreation Center, 7 Linsley Street

• District 2: Montowese School, 145 Fitch Street

• District 3-11: Ridge Road School, 1341 Ridge Road

• District 3-34: Ridge Road School, 1341 Ridge Road

• District 4: Green Acres School, 146 Upper State Street

• District 5: Clintonville School, 456 Clintonville Road

Absentee ballots and Election Day Registration ballots will be counted at the centralized location of Memorial Town Hall, 18 Church Street, North Haven.
