Tracey, Maltese, and Local Delegation Unite Ahead of General Election

It took less than a week for “Big” Steve Tracey and Sal Maltese to bury the hatchet, with the two appearing together Sept. 16 at the regular monthly meeting of the East Haven Republican Town Committee to shake hands and urge party faithful to work together to secure victory in November.

Tracey, the party-endorsed candidate for mayor and victor of the Sept. 10 primary, announced to a crowd at the East Haven Senior Center, “We’re uniting, we’re going to work hard, and we’re going to fight to ensure we elect our team in November so that we can keep East Haven moving forward.”

A week prior, Maltese and Tracey squared off in a battle of Republican heavyweights, with Tracey winning 62 percent of the vote along with the right to carry the party banner in the general election on Nov. 5. Although the primary was competitive, Maltese and Tracey urged unity and vowed to work together to elect a successor to Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr.

Tracey explained, “It was incredibly gracious for Sal to come out tonight along with a number of key players from his campaign to re-engage with our team. I visited with him immediately after the primary and we both agreed that we needed to set an example for our supporters, come together, and work together to ensure we secure a victory in November.”

Maltese, who garnered 38 percent of the primary vote, added, “We are one team now, period. I was inspired when Steve stopped by my business after the primary to extend an olive branch to my supporters and my team. I never doubted that Steve has the town’s best interests in mind and I am committed to working with him and his entire slate to ensure we elect our team this November.”
