Surf Club Alcohol Ban in Effect and to be Enforced for All School Sports

First Selectman Tom Banisch announced Sept. 17 that there will be an alcohol ban in effect for all remaining home sporting events and stepped-up enforcement by Madison Police.

In a statement he said, “We experienced some problems at last week’s home football game where alcohol was involved. In speaking with Chief of Police Jack Drumm, School Superintendent Tom Scarice, and Beach & Rec Director Scot Erskine, we have decided to step up enforcement of the alcohol policy at the Surf Club to try to prevent further problems at the games.”

Alcohol is only allowed at the Surf Club by permit between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and never at school functions. There will be an enhanced police presence at the games and tailgating parties will be visited to be sure there is no alcohol involved.

Banisch further said, “This is an exciting year for our football team and it shouldn’t be ruined by a few people who have a couple of drinks and then get rowdy at the game. Let’s all work together to make this a great season for our teams in a safe environment for all the fans.”
