North Haven Sons and Daughters of Italy Announce Scholarship Recipients

Ryan Bell, Rachel Helwig, and Ethan Johnson are the recipients of the Lodge 2805’s 2019 scholarships.

Bell is winner of the 2019 $1,000 Regional Scholarship. Bell graduated from Sheen High School and will attend The University of New Haven, majoring in genetics and biotechnology.

Helwig is winner of the 2019 Neil A. Velleca Scholarship for $500, and a 2019 Lodge 2805 Recognition Award for $50. Helwig graduated from North Branford High School and will pursue a degree in psychology from Jacksonville University.

Johnson is winner of a 2019 Lodge 2805 Recognition Award for $50. Johnson graduated from Newington High School and will pursue a degree in graphic arts from Eastern Connecticut State University.

The lodge’s regional scholarship is open to graduating public high school students of Italian heritage from North Haven, North Branford, East Haven, Hamden, and Wallingford, who wish to further their education at any college, university or trade school. The Neil A. Velleca Senior Scholarship and the Lodge 2805 Awards are open to graduating high school students with an affiliation to Lodge 2805. The lodge meets on the first Tuesday of the month at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 57 Pool Road, North Haven. New members are always welcomed.
