Tuxis Lighting Moves to Madison BOF

The Board of Selectmen (BOS) approved a $147,000 special appropriation to fund lighting for the Tuxis Pond walkway rehabilitation project at its regular meeting on Aug. 26.

Earlier this month, the BOS approved the project without the lighting portion. The total price of the project had exceeded a state grant, and the lighting portion was removed in order to get construction underway without any delays, First Selectman Tom Banish (R) said at the time.

The lighting would include 12 concrete bollard lights and approximately 90 step lights, according to Assistant Town Engineer Robert Russo.

“Without the lighting [the walkway] is essentially for daytime usage,” said Town Engineer John Ienacco.

There was some questions about specifics before the BOS approved the appropriation. Selectman Al Goldberg (D) wanted to make sure the project had been reviewed by the Energy Committee. Selectman Scott Murphy (D) asked about the pricing, and what quality of lighting the walkway would have.

“Was there like a high, medium, and low, and did we pick the medium? Is this the Cadillac, is this the low end?” Murphy asked.

“I will tell you, we’re getting the right amount of lighting for the application,” Russo answered.

The $147,000 appropriation must still must be approved by the Board of Finance.
