Incarnation Center in Ivoryton, which includes the Bushy Hill Nature Center, the Pequot Sherwood Camp, and Nature’s Playground afterschool program, is throwing itself a 90th anniversary soirée and the entire local community is invited to take part in the commemorative event.

On the evening of Saturday, Sept. 21, from 5:30 to 10 p.m., the revamped Incarnation Center Building, overlooking the Bushy Hill Lake, will be transformed into a party place complete with live music provided by the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde band, food, drink, a silent auction, and free childcare. All proceeds from the celebration will go back into the programs offered at the Ivoryton location, which includes the Bushy Hill Nature Center, the Pequot Sherwood Camp, and Nature’s Playground afterschool program.

According to Dana Stivers, the associate executive director of the Incarnation Center, it is the oldest co-ed continually operating camp in the country. It began in the Hudson Valley area of New York in 1886 and moved to the Ivoryton location 90 years ago, offering kids a variety of diversified outdoor experiences year-round.

“This is the first time we have done something like this that encompasses all three programs at one time, so we are very excited and we hope the community comes out to support us,” said Stivers. “We received some awesome donations of goods for the silent auction from local businesses and individuals. The night promises to be a good time for everyone and the best part is that we are offering free childcare on premise so parents can feel comfortable that their kids are safe and nearby while they are having a good time.”

Childcare is being offered for children aged 5 and up by the Nature’s Playground staff.

The proceeds from the anniversary celebration fundraiser will go to fund scholarships for all three of the programs. Stivers explained that each year over $200,000 in scholarships are given out through the three nature-based programs.

“This is a way for us to ensure that all children who want to participate in our programs have the opportunity to do so, no matter their family’s economic circumstances,” Stivers said.

Tickets for the event are $40 per person. For more information, visit www.incarnationcenter.org or www.bushyhill.org or call 860-767-0848.
