Killingworth Man, 74, Charged with Repeated Sexual Assault of Pre-Teen

A 74-year old Killingworth man has been arrested and charged with repeated molesting a pre-teen child over the course of five years. On Tuesday, Aug. 20 at approximately 1:20 p.m., Steven J. Azzaro, 74, of 267 Route 81 in Killinqworth as the result of a sexual assault investigation initiated by Troop F in Westbrook on March 29.

It was alleged that Azzaro repeatedly molested a minor female victim while she visited his residence in Killingworth and was under his care. The abuse reportedly occurred between 2007 and 2012.

According to the redacted police report (see related content), the abuse victim is now 17. The report also states that Azzaro’s wife, who was often home in the times of the reported abuse, was not aware it was happening but that “she was certain the victim would never lie about some thing like this.”

Azzaro was arrested by warrant and charged with first degree sexual assault, third degree sexual assault, and risk of injury to a child.

He was processed and released after posting a $100,000 court set bond. He is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court GA#9 on Sept. 21. The investigation and arrest was conducted by Detective Patrick Dwyer.
