• The following area students were named to the Mercy High School Third Quarter Honor Roll for the 2018-’19 school year:

Awards and Honors

• Teresa H. Seo of Branford was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the national honor society for business majors at schools accredited by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. Seo is majoring in business at Western New England University.

• Allison Rozear of Branford was awarded the University of Rochester Xerox Innovator Award by Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden. Conferred jointly by the science, computer, and math faculty, the award is presented to a junior who shows high motivation in innovation and information technology. Each year, Sacred Heart Academy recognizes outstanding juniors who excel in scholarship, leadership, and personal accomplishments with college or university awards based on the criteria of each institution of higher learning.

• Abbey Parente of Northford was awarded the Saint Michael’s College Book Award by Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden, Connecticut. The award is presented to an outstanding junior in academics, a member of National Honor Society, and a leader who demonstrates a sustained commitment to school and community activities. Each year, Sacred Heart Academy recognizes outstanding juniors who excel in scholarship, leadership, and personal accomplishments with college or university awards based on the criteria of each institution of higher learning.

• Susan Hemingway of Branford was awarded the Saint Anselm College Book Award by Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden. The award is presented to a junior who has earned high academic grades in a very competitive curriculum, has an awareness of social responsibility, and possesses strong character. Each year, Sacred Heart Academy recognizes outstanding juniors who excel in scholarship, leadership, and personal accomplishments with college or university awards based on the criteria of each institution of higher learning.

• Sarah M. Koljaka of Branford was awarded a National Merit scholarship ($2,500). Koljaka studies at the Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford and plans to study medicine.

• The following area students were awarded the 4.0 Gold Tassel Scholar by Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden for holding a cumulative four-year minimum average of 4.0 and, following tradition, wore golden tassels during graduation ceremonies in May:

Isabella Crotta of Northford plans to enroll at the University of Connecticut.

Kelsey Poronteau of Branford plans to enroll at Providence College in Rhode Island.

Amanda Savona of Branford plans to enroll at Northeastern University in Massachusetts.

Vivian Wang of North Branford plans to enroll at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Academic and Extracurricular Activities

• Joseph DiMaio of North Branford was one of 18 students from around the world who enrolled in April 2019 for the doctor of chiropractic degree program at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

• Aleksandra Kopacz of Branford was inducted at the University of Bridgeport to the Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

• Boo Kyo Sur of Branford graduated in spring with a B.S. in earth and environmental science from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

• Blake Joseph Cornachini of Branford graduated with an M.S. in fire protection engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.

Dean’s List

• Marissa Bale of Northford was named to the Dean’s List at Bates College for the winter semester ending in April 2019. Bale is a senior, majoring in environmental studies.

• The following Branford students were named to the University of Delaware’s Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester: Jayleen Flores, Robin Norko, Casey Raczkowski, Harrison Smith, Sophia Smith, and James Wallace.

• The following Northford students were named to the spring 2019 Dean’s List at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island: Evan Cordova, Anthony Lucibello, and Caterina Teodosio.

• Jessica Giamattei of Branford was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a grade point average of 3.30 and have no grade of incomplete or lower than C for the semester.

• Ryan Gries of Northford was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester at Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts. Gries is pursuing a B.S. in criminal justice.
