Westbrook Boy Scout Troop 38, chartered by the First Congregational Church of Westbrook, is planning an adventure of a lifetime. In August 2020, 12 scouts and four adult leaders are heading to Cimarron, New Mexico, for Philmont Scout Reservation, a high adventure camp that is physically and mentally challenging. The scouts will be required to carry all their gear in backpacks and hike between 4 and 10 miles per day. The altitude is between 6,000 and 12,000 feet, which makes the challenge extremely difficult.

Even though it is a year away, the scouts will be preparing on a weekly basis. On Wednesday evenings, they will be hiking around town carrying their backpacks to help them build their strength. The troop encourages those who see them training to give a thumbs-up for moral support.
