Ivoryton Farmers Market Seeking More Vendors

It’s pretty simply math: More vendors equal more customers and that’s just what the Ivoryton Farmers Market is looking for right now. Down approximately five vendors, from 20 last season to 15 now, the market is looking to fill in the blanks and is putting the call out to local farmers and artisans.

“There’s just been some moving around,” said Market Manager Dave Sousa of Essex Garlic. “Some of our vendors are waiting for their crops to come in, because the cold, wet spring slowed their growing season and some of vendors have different plans this season, so we are welcoming new vendors of all varieties, as well as food trucks.”

The market would especially like to invite a bread vendor and a fish vendor, both of which have been staples of the community-based market in the past and have done very well.

“People loved the fresh bread. That was always a big hit, as was the fresh off the boat fish, so we would really like to fill those spots as soon as possible,” said Chris Shane of the Ivoryton Alliance.

The Ivoryton Farmer’s Market has been going strong for the past eight years. It opens each season in mid-June and runs, every Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through September. The market’s current vendors offer a wide array of homemade jams and jellies, Chatfield Hollow mushrooms, Maple Breeze Farm maple syrup, eggs, locally raised meat, local ice cream, Essex Garlic, olive oil, cut flowers, handmade jewelry, local honey, and a seasonal variety produce including corn, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, an more.

“It really is a case of the more the merrier,” Shane said. “The more vendors we have, the more customers, and everyone is happier. Everyone likes variety and that’s what we are looking for.”

“Sometimes the market is competing with other local events like the muster and other popular happenings, but people can still stop by quickly and get what need and want for the week and be on their way,” said Sousa, who encourages everyone to come by and support the local farmers, businesses, and the whole community.

The farmer’s market always has music and is always kid and pet friendly. For more information about joining the market as a vendor or food truck operator, contact Sousa at 860-767-4967.
