Clinton Summer Fair Returns at First Church

For the 66th year, the Clinton Summer Fair will be returning to town on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10 at the First Church of Christ Congregational in Clinton.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on the 9th and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the 10th. Les Browne, the moderator of the church and chairperson of the fair, said that the event will consist of live entertainment, food vendors, about 60 craft vendors, and activities for children, too. A lobster dinner on Saturday night a 5 p.m. will feature lobster prepared by Lenny and Joe’s.

While the fair is free to attend, the lobster dinner costs $25 and tickets are on sale in the church office.

“The money goes into the church budget, which goes to different charitable efforts,” said Browne.

Even though the fair helps the church and is held on church property, Browne said he sees it as more of a community event than just a church event.

“The neatest thing is it bring people together,” said Browne.

Many of the attendees, volunteers, and vendors are not necessarily church members, but Browne noted that it’s a fun community event that offers people a chance to see someone they may have lost touch with over the summer. Additionally, Browne said that the fact that the fair has been held for almost seven decades adds to the fabric of the community.

“As good stewards, I feel like we’re almost obligated to hold this. It’s part of Clinton, it’s something that has to happen,” said Browne.

As for a favorite part of the fair, Browne rattled off a few crowd pleasers.

“On Saturday at 3 p.m., Kidz Konnection is putting on a performance. They did one last year and we must have had an audience of almost 100 people there,” said Browne.

While activities like the bounce house, Kidz Konnection performance, and a magic show are aimed at kids, Browne voted the live music, craft vendors, and food will be appropriate for people of all ages.

“It’s in August and we’re still selling gallons of clam chowder every year. We hope people can come out and have a good time and enjoys themselves,” said Browne.
