07/30/2019 03:30 PMThe Daytime Gardeners Club of North Haven are hosting a Farm to Table Dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 14 to benefit the North Haven Historical Society and the gardeners themselves.
“The historical society, they have a major renovation going on at their facility with their museum,” said Daytime Gardeners Club President Sally Brockett. “This is one way of helping them with that.”
The historical society, housed in the North Haven Cultural Center at 27 Broadway, is currently working on renovations to the building so that it can continue to accept visitors and offer programs on the town’s history.
The event will be held on the Brockett Farm at 93 Arrowdale Road from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets, which Brockett said are selling quickly, are $50 per person.
Brockett said that some of the money that goes to the Daytime Gardeners may be put to use restoring the G. Carl Veith Memorial Park garden, though the club has also received a grant for the project.
“We’re trying to have everything made locally in North Haven,” Brockett said. “We’re trying to get as much donated as we can.”
Frankie’s Fruit and Vegetables will provide the produce for the meal and Frank Bumsted will provide local, grass-fed beef. Brockett said that the food will be cooked locally but catered to the location due to a lack of facilities.
Brockett Farm will also be opening its private family museum to the public, displaying tractors and donkeys as a way to deliver a farm atmosphere. Walter Brockett will open his woodworking shop for tours and his grandniece, who owns Christa Jo Glass, will also display her glasswork.
“It’s still a farming area. People don’t realize that it’s still in North Haven,” Brockett said.
This is the first time that the Daytime Gardeners has put on such an event.
