Seeks to Hold 6-3 Council Majority

By endorsing four incumbent Town Council members and two new candidates, North Branford's Republican Town Committee (RTC) has set its November 2019 municipal election slate and will work to keep its current 6-3 Town Council majority, the maximum allowed by Town Charter. Long-serving GOP councilmen Al Rose and Anthony Candelora will not run for re-election, according to a press release issued by the RTC on July 23. The RTC also named an incumbent candidate for re-election to the Board of Education (BOE).

Together with naming the 2019 GOP-endorsed candidates, the press release also included the brief statement, "Incumbent councilors Al Rose and Anthony Candelora chose not to run for reelection this year."

According to the release, during a meeting of the North Branford Republican RTC last week, members endorsed to run for Town Council on the GOP ticket in the November 5, 2019 municipal election are incumbents Mayor Michael Doody, Deputy Mayor Rose Marie Angeloni and councilmen Bob Viglione and Tom Zampano; together with new Republican candidates Ron Pelliccia and Walter Goad.

To complete the North Branford GOP 2019 slate, the RTC also endorsed BOE incumbent Cynthia Rice for re-election.

"We have a great team of seasoned incumbents, as well as some excellent new candidates this year," North Branford RTC chairman Michael Downes stated in the press release."Our team will continue working hard to hold the line on taxes, ensure our school system has the resources it needs, and keep North Branford a great place to live, work and raise a family."
