Guilford BOE Extends Superintendent Contract

While there are some administrative changes coming to the Guilford Public School system, the top job will likely stay the same for several more years. At a Board of Education (BOE) meeting on June 24, the board voted to extend Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Freeman’s contract through June 30, 2020.

Freeman started in Guilford in 2011 and has been consistently praised by the BOE for his leadership and his role in keeping Guilford Public Schools in the top tier of public school systems across the state.

In addition to the extension, the contract also provides for a 2.25 percent increase in salary, vacation buyback, and other benfits. In addition, the contract provides a $2,500 increase in both the leadership and car stipend. Freeman currently makes more than $220,000.

While Freeman will stay at the helm of the district leadership team, there will be some other changes this coming year. Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Anne Keene recently retired after 20 years of service to Guilford Public Schools and the BOE approved the appointment of a new assistant superintendent, Dr. Annine Crystal, just before the end of the school year.

In addition, the leadership of the BOE will change after this November for the first time in nearly two decades. While formal candidate slates have yet to be formally approved by the respective town committees, BOE Chair Bill Bloss (D) will not seek another term this fall and leave the board after 20 years of volunteer service.
