The July Fourth holiday has come and gone, but Guilford is ready to extend the celebrations out one more week. Two of the most popular events of the year—the annual community picnic and fireworks show—are scheduled for Saturday, July 13.

The community picnic, an event sponsored annually by the Guilford Parks & Recreation Department, runs from 4 to 7 p.m. on the green. Parks & Recreation Director Rick Maynard said there will be lots of activities for kids including inflatables as well as plenty of things for adults to enjoy like food trucks and performances from the popular 100-piece Town Band.

“This concert is always very popular with all talented musicians,” he said. “…The band will play rain or shine under a tent on the green and this is a family-friendly event.”

After the picnic ends, festivities continue at the fairgrounds before the fireworks show. Starting at 7 p.m. there are more inflatables for kids and food trucks as well as music from the band Nightshift.

“They play hits from 1960s and ‘70s,” Maynard said.

This is the 20th year of the Guilford fireworks and the Board of Selectmen recently approved a contract with Atlas Pyrovision Entertainment Group for a total amount not to exceed $15,000 to put on the show. Maynard said Atlas has delivered the Guilford fireworks for years now and the display always dazzles the crowd, particularly the American Flag the lights up the sky. Additionally, Maynard said this company offers a reasonable price and local fire officials are very comfortable with the company’s professionalism.

The fireworks show begins around 9:20 p.m. but the fireworks are a popular event and there is only so much space at the fairgrounds, so folks looking to park are asked to come by 8 p.m. at the latest.

The rain date for the fireworks is Sunday, July 14. As a reminder, no smoking, vaping, or alcohol is allowed on the Green.
