Community Foundation of Middlesex County: Celebrating the Power of Women

Women can—and do—make an incredible impact in our community each and every day. We all have special women in our lives who guide and nurture us: a mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, coach, boss, or friend. At the Community Foundation of Middlesex County (CFMC), we are fortunate to know and work with many extraordinary women, and we celebrate all of you who share passion, commitment, and caring ways in making a difference in the lives of everyone in our region.

Thanks to supporters, the Sari A. Rosenbaum Fund for Women & Girls at CFMC ensures that women and girls of all ages and abilities have a path to self-reliance and achieving their full potential. This support has helped young girls and women engage in the arts, sciences, education, and their community, and become the best they can be. From the 60 women who believed in the power of women helping women and started this fund to the donors who continue to support the fund, we are working to make a positive impact right here, locally, in our community. We thank supporters for helping our neighbors live independent and productive lives.

Every contribution makes a difference, and here is just one wonderful example of how the little things matter (and yet so often are taken for granted). All children, as they grow, face new challenges; some are large and overwhelming, while others can appear slight, almost inconsequential. Even the smallest stumbling block can make a lasting difference in a child’s self-esteem. It is especially true for girls as they enter their middle school years. Durham Middlefield Youth & Family Services works with girls in their community to create a place for them to talk with special mentors about the everyday life challenges that they are facing. Thanks to the generous support of the Sari A. Rosenbaum Fund for Women & Girls, the “BTW…Can We Talk” program provides a safe space for young girls to discuss a variety of issues such as peer pressure, social media, bullying, female role models, lack of self-confidence, navigating social circles, and health and wellness. Together these girls are building a strong peer network today, and developing self-confidence and communications skills that will help them become great mentors to the next generation.

Together we are improving the quality of life one girl at a time, and thus improving the quality of life for her family and our entire community. Melinda Gates’s philosophy of “if you want to lift a society up, invest in women” says it all. At CFMC, we fully understand the lasting impact that women create in our community. We know readers do, too. We invite them to learn more about the Sari A. Rosenbaum Fund for Women & Girls and its positive impact on all our lives by calling us at 860-347-0025 or visiting us online at MiddlesexCountyCF.org.
