The East Haven Rotary Club recently held its third annual Anginette Wars event, which has quickly become the club’s largest fundraiser and was attended this year by a crowd of close to 600 people at the East Haven High School.

Co-chairpersons Cheryl Panzo and Joan Adamczyk have announced this year’s winners as follows:

Best Anginette (awarded by judges):

Blue Ribbon: Ann Marie Cerreta—Theme “Leis, Luaus, and Alohas”

1st Runner Up: Paula Troiano—Superhero Bakers

2nd Runner Up: Gabrielle Panzo—Viva Las Anginettes

Spectator Voted (People’s Choice):

Best Tasting Anginette: Frankie Carangelo-O’Leary—Nonnie’s Sweet Sunshine

Most Creative Table Display: Gary Acabbo—Anginette’s at Tiffany’s

Most Decorative Anginette: Dina Sanz—Mardi Gras

The judges for this year’s event were Laura Hutchinson, Jocelyn Maminta, and Brian Spyros from WTNH NEW8, along with Missy Antonelli of Sweet Mary’s Bakery and Italian-American historian and author Anthony Riccio of Yale University. The emcee for the evening was radio personality Vinnie Penn.

All net proceeds from Anginette Wars benefit the club’s Ben Mazzucco Clothe the Children project. Each year on one Saturday in January, the club provides deserving children $100 to shop for items of clothing at Kohl’s Department Store in Branford.

The club is celebrating its 80th anniversary. During the past 18 years, the East Haven Rotary Clothe the Children program has provided clothing for almost 1,000 children, which, combined with a Kohl’s discount, totals more than $100,000 worth of merchandise that the children have received.
