04/18/2019 12:01 AMThe North Haven Education Foundation (NHEF) Adult Spelling Bee enters its fifth year on Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m. at North Haven High School.
There are more than 30 teams entered in the contest to compete for the Best of the Hive Trophy. The event benefits the students of North Haven schools. Teachers, firefighters, town officials, local businesses, and many others compete.
“It’s just a fun, town-wide event,” said Kathy Rocklin, event chairman for all five years. “Each year we continue to try and make it better.”
NHEF encourages and supports academic excellence by funding projects and initiatives that enhance or extend learning opportunities for students and the community beyond the conventional budgeting resources of the school system. Funds raised from NHEF have built science labs in the town’s elementary schools, sent local culinary students to Disneyworld, helped the art department with new equipment, and more.
There is no admission fee to the spelling bee, but there is a requested donation to help support NHEF’s mission. Principal Dr. Russell Dallai and NHEF Chairman Bernard Pellegrino have signed on for another year.
The highlight of the night for many is the North Haven kindergarten kids singing “Baby Bumblebee.”
