The Town of North Branford is recognizing Earth Day 2019 with a public event, hosted by the Town's Hazardous Waste & Recycling Committee (HWRC), at Wall Field Totoket Valley Park on Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

For the second year, the committee is organizing an opportunity for residents and businesses to participate in an information-sharing and free event at the park, located at 260 Forest Road. Earth Day displays and information tables will be set up with committee members, business representatives and, and vendors, discussing topics including latest in recycling programs to what's underway at several of North Branford's environmentally-focused businesses.

On April 16, North Branford Mayor Michael Doody read a Town proclamation recognizing Earth Day's origin on April 22, 1970 and recognizing North Branford celebrates Earth Day this year on April 27, 2019. The proclamation also called for continuing efforts of citizens, Town staff, elected officials, organizations and businesses to take steps to protect and conserve the diverse environment, ecosystems and natural habitats of the Town of North Branford.

HWRC member and Earth Day event co-organizer Bill Savastano accepted the proclamation at the Town Council meeting on April 16.  Savastano also invited residents to come out and spend some time at the Town's Earth Day event on April 27.

"The committee's been working hard getting vendors to come in, eco-friendly businesses and anybody that can teach us anything about the environment," said Savastano, noting there are several types of recycling programs in town of which residents may not be aware, or may have questions on.

"We do a lot of things in town, [and] if you come by and spend a half an hour with us on the 27th down at Wall Field, we'll be able to answer a lot," said Savastano.

North Branford Earth Day 2019's rain date is Sunday, April 28, same time, same location.
