Shoreline Arts Alliance Facilitates $1.74 Million for Art Student Scholarships

Shoreline Arts Alliance is proud to announce that the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School awarded $1.74 million in scholarship monies to 21 high school juniors and seniors whose work was chosen for Shoreline Arts Alliance’s Future Choices visual art competition and exhibition. Students from Coginchaug Regional High School, Daniel Hand High School, East Lyme High School, Haddam Killingworth High School, Lyme-Old Lyme High School, and Valley Regional High School had their artwork recognized by Robert Calafiore, the assistant dean and director of admission at the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School.

“These awards are born of the belief that artists are an essential part of our world. Now, more than ever, the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School is committed to educating young creatives to understand the power they hold,” Calafiore said. “Through creative critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, communication, innovation, and an ability to adapt, artists are positioned to influence, direct, and shape the future of our world in every industry. The impact of artists on political, social and cultural issues drives the change that moves us forward. Artists offer all of us a better understanding of who we are, by looking at where we have been and where we are going. We hope to assist young students to follow their passion to build a life in the creative fields.”

At a time when funding for arts programs is being cut and art organizations are struggling to survive, Shoreline Arts Alliance continues to be a forerunner in the field providing opportunities to artists of all ages. As the only arts agency in the state of Connecticut that directly provides students with the opportunities to have their artwork seen and recognized, the alliance perseveres in its mission to transform lives through the arts by engaging, enriching, encouraging, and educating the community. The scholarship monies awarded to these students has allowed Shoreline Arts Alliance to join forces with the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School to transform the lives of these high school students through art.
