Save a Life: Free Narcan Training in Branford

Smile Anyway Hosts April 18 Training

April 16, 2019: Over the past 15 years, individuals, families, and communities across our nation—and our community--have been tragically affected by the opioid epidemic, with the number of overdose deaths from opioids doubling nationally from 21,089 in 2010 to 42,249 in 2016, according to the U.S. Surgeon General.

This steep increase is attributed to the rapid proliferation of illicitly made fentanyl and other highly potent synthetic opioids. Narcan—also known as the generic naloxone-- is a safe antidote to a suspected overdose and, when given in time, can save a life. Research shows that when naloxone and overdose education are available to community members, overdose deaths decrease in those communities.

With that in mind, Smile Anyway, with support from Creamery Station, John Spignesi Band and Tim Palmieri, is  offering free Narcan training. Training will take place Thursday, April 18, 7 p.m. at Hilltop Gallery, 616 East Main Street in Branford.
