04/15/2019 12:00 AMKids with talent crowd the cast of Suessical Jr., for four performances coming to the Tabor Arts Branford stage Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28.
Shoreline youth in grades two through eight auditioned for their chance to be a part of the cast of the musical, which is based on the children's stories of Dr. Seuss (Theodore Seuss Geisel). The family friendly show brings to life beloved characters including the Cat and the Hat, Horton the elephant and plenty of Whos, to name a few.
Tabor Arts Branford revamped its theatre and arts programming for adults and youth a little over a year ago, bringing in Branford native and theatre pro Colin Sheehan as its director. Overseen by a steering committee, the program is an outreach of Tabor Lutheran Community Church in Branford.
It's drawing ever-increasing numbers to participate in youth musicals, said Sheehan; beginning with 2018 performances of Peter Pan Jr. and Willy Wonka Jr.
"We just started this program last year, and we've doubled the number of cast members this year. They're all so talented," said Sheehan.
Assisting Sheehan with Tabor Art's production of Suessical Jr. are Kelsey Mulligan, choreography; Jamie Petrone, music director, Kristin Hotton, set designer and Sarah Nelson, costume designer.
"I have a great team behind me, and the support from the steering committee and the parents have been amazing I couldn't ask for a better community."
All shows will take place on the Tabor Arts stage, 45 Tabor Drive, Branford.
