The Rotary Club of Branford recently presented a check for $1,000 to Laura Burban, director of the Daniel Cosgrove Animal Shelter. The shelter has been helping homeless animals along the Connecticut shoreline and vicinity since April 2003.

Hundreds of displaced animals come through their doors each year. Placing these pets into new homes requires time, rehabilitation, and veterinary care. In addition to adoption, the shelter also provides rehabilitation to the most abused, neglected, and sickly animals; low- or no-cost spay/neuter certificates; humane education through schools, seminars, and special needs groups; and internships for both high school and college students looking to gain experience working hands on with animals, learning about investigations and providing services to enhance both public and animal safety.

The Branford Rotary Club raised this money as part of its golf fundraiser at the Wallingford Country Club.

Branford Rotary is an organization of almost 80 women and men representing a cross-section of local business and professional leaders, living and/or employed in Branford, who work as volunteers on a variety of local and international projects to improve the quality of life in their home and world communities.

The Branford Rotary Club meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. at the Parthenon Diner, 374 E. Main St, Branford. Guests of members are welcome to attend breakfasts, and membership inquiries are encouraged.
