The Community Forest Commission (CFC) for the Town of Branford is pleased to presentĀ its first notable tree for 2019. Take a look at this beautiful white birch, also called paper birch, which is nestled between the sanctuary and the social hall of the Trinity Episcopal Church on the Branford Town Green.

Like most birch trees, this tree type loves the northern climate and is native all across the US at the border with Canada. Native Americans made birch bark canoes by stretching the bark across cedar framing to make a light weight vessel.

This particular tree is double-stemmed and about 45 feet high. Enjoy its beauty next time you are on the green.

The CFC hopes to continue to share photos and information of additional Branford Notable Trees, to help increase public awareness of the importance of the town's trees. To nominate a notable tree (preferably easily seen by the public, and a native tree) please emai: llr26@ymail.com.
